Quality Assurance Program & Regulatory Compliance

Not having any in-house resources to handle technical requirements of being in the industry presented a challenge to this color cosmetic client. Protecting product quality requires constant monitoring of vendors. Complying with government regulations and technical requirements of major retail outlets requires access to expertise that can advise on how to meet the requirements without compromising the company’s intellectual property and market position. PIL provided a technical department that large companies all have, at costs that kept the smaller clients in business and able to grow.

A color cosmetic pioneer in the mineral makeup and skincare industry, Product Integrity Laboratory (PIL) supported the product development efforts by conducting stability and package compatibility testing for this client. PIL also managed human safety testing and microbiological preservative efficacy testing at outside laboratories on behalf of this cosmetic innovator.

Furthermore, PIL developed a Quality Assurance Program, implementing procedures with contract manufacturers to assure reliably consistent quality, including evaluation of bulk product before filling and finished product. PIL implemented the Quality Assurance Program for the client, testing bulk product and finished product submissions and reporting final quality status to the contract manufacturers and to the client. Also falling under quality control, PIL conducted statistical inspection of incoming shipments of makeup brushes to insure consistent quality.

PIL provided significant direction and support for regulatory compliance at the client’s site, insuring compliance with US, Canadian, and EU regulations. Additionally, PIL developed ingredient lists for labeling.

Overall Result: The company has grown from an up and coming domestic beauty company to a multinational force in the industry. We built the parts of the company that were necessary to play the game at a major level. Without those parts, the company could not grow without risking quality disasters or regulatory fiascos.
